Ollie Russell reports:

This was a crew that had never rowed together and had BSJ and Jamil come in pretty last minute, nonetheless I think it is fair to decide the row down as atrocious. There seemed a genuine lack of focus, body control and timing. After marshalling (which was an absolute mess but also hilarious) the race itself was a big improvement. The crew suddenly seemed to start rowing together. It was the fastest row but from where we were during the row down I think we can be pleased that we put out a performance which showed that with the correct concentration and less booze the night before everyone in this boat could row reasonably well.

Callum McKenzie reports:

We put in a punchy row. We have only been together for about a week, so were still trying to gel together. The long and short of it is that 2.6k is a long way to row. We started strong and settled quite quickly into our race rhythm, however the water up till grassy was very bumpy, so it didn't quite feel like we were tapping it along super nicely. After Ditton corner, we started to really produce a good sustainable rhythm that was moving. After the railway bridge we decided to start our wind, up 5% or up 1/2 on the rate, or something like that, incrementally until the finish. About 200m from the line we had an all out push which worked really well, together and powerful. All in all a good row, we need to better the finer details of our rowing. The recovery needs some work to make sure that we have a smooth, sat entry into the front without the boat collapsing.
